SAINT FRANCIS BULLETIN

February 5, 2026

Annual Meeting Report

The 2026 Annual Meeting was held on February 1 following the 10:30 service. We heard reports from the Rector and the Junior Warden, as well as a presentation of the budget for the coming year. During the Sunday school hour, Fr. Cappucci offered an excellent “State of St. Francis” address, and there is a growing sense of excitement about what the Lord is doing in our parish.

An election was held for the Vestry. Congratulations to Matt Carl, Ethan Christopher, and Julie Spaulding, who were elected to serve on the Vestry for the coming year. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Dinah Arce, Mack Lindsey, and Susan Rambin, who completed their terms—each serving four years due to an extended term.

These newly elected members join Meredith Childs, Doug Cooper, James Cox, Ethan Hoyt, and LeAnn Thomas, along with Fr. Cappucci to make up the Vestry for 2026.

Grady Collins will continue serving as Treasurer, though he is not a member of the Vestry.

Finally, Ethan Hoyt was approved as the St. Francis Lay Delegate to the Diocesan Convention in November, with Dave Thomas serving as the alternate.

2026 Pledge Cards

Pledge cards for 2026 are now available, and we invite you to prayerfully consider your commitment for the coming year. Your pledges help support the ministries that make St. Francis a place of welcome and spiritual growth. These cards are more than a financial formality—they are a tangible expression of our shared commitment to the ministry, worship, and outreach that make St. Francis a place of welcome and spiritual growth.

The yellow pledge cards support the Operating Fund, which covers the day‑to‑day expenses of our parish—salaries, utilities, worship supplies, and the many ministries that keep our church thriving.

The green pledge cards support the Building Fund, which helps us continue paying down the loan that made our beautiful worship space possible.

Every pledge, no matter the size, strengthens our community and helps us steward our resources wisely. Thank you for your generosity and for all the ways you support the life and mission of St. Francis. After prayerfully considering what you can pledge, leave the completed card in the box on the table, place it in the offering plate or give it to Grady Collins.

2025 Contribution Statements

The 2025 contribution statements are now available electronically. If you would like to receive your statement, please send a request to info@stfrancisaustin.org. Your email will be forwarded to our Parish Administrator, Mark Rambin, who will provide your contribution statement via email.

Upcoming Weekday Services

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday begins the holy season of Lent, a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal in the life of the Church. On Wednesday, February 18, St. Francis will offer two services: a quiet, said service at 12:00 noon and a service with music at 7:00 pm. Both services will include Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes, an ancient sign of our mortality and our need for God's grace.

Ash Wednesday invites us to return to the Lord with honest hearts, to lay aside distractions, and to begin the Lenten journey with intention. Whether you come at midday or in the evening, we hope you will join us as we enter this sacred season together.

Feast of St. Matthias the Apostle

On Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 pm, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Matthias with a service of Holy Communion, followed by snacks and fellowship.

St. Matthias holds a unique place among the apostles. After Judas's betrayal and death, the early Church sought someone who had been with Jesus from the beginning to take his place. Through prayer and discernment, Matthias was chosen (Acts 1:15–26). Though little is recorded about his later ministry, tradition remembers him as a faithful witness to the Resurrection and a steadfast servant of the Gospel. His feast day invites us to reflect on God's ability to call ordinary people into extraordinary service, and on the quiet, steady faithfulness that builds up the Church.

We hope you will join us as we honor St. Matthias and share in worship and fellowship together.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

Mark your calendars for our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 17 from 6:00–7:00 pm in the St. Francis fellowship area. The members of the St. Polycarp's Men's Guild will once again be flipping pancakes and serving sausage and orange juice for everyone to enjoy as we prepare to enter the season of Lent.

Jim Crandell has reached out to the men of the parish for volunteers to help with food donations, setup, cooking, and cleanup. If you'd like to lend a hand, please let him know—many hands make light work, and it's a fun way to serve together.

We typically welcome around 20-30 parishioners who make the mid‑week trip back to church for this beloved tradition. We hope you'll join us for good food, fellowship, and a joyful start to the Lenten season.

Soup Supper & Stations of the Cross

During the season of Lent, St. Francis members and friends are invited to gather each Friday evening for a simple potluck meatless soup supper, followed by Stations of the Cross. Our first gathering will be on Friday, February 20 at 6:30 pm.

The soup supper is a longstanding Lenten tradition—a simple, meatless meal that reminds us of humility, fellowship, and the call to live more simply during this holy season. If you are able, please consider bringing a pot of meatless soup, bread, or a light accompaniment to share.

Stations of the Cross is a cherished devotion that invites us to walk with Christ on the way to Calvary, reflecting on His sacrifice and the depth of God's love for us. Praying the Stations together offers a quiet, contemplative rhythm at the end of our week.

These Friday gatherings will continue each week through March 27. We hope you will join us for this meaningful pattern of prayer, reflection, and community life as we journey toward Holy Week together.

Lenten Food Drive

During the season of Lent, St. Francis will once again support the Food Pantry at St. Louis the King of France Catholic Church through a parish‑wide food drive. Donations will be collected from February 22 through March 29 (Palm Sunday). This is a meaningful way for us to practice Lenten generosity and care for our neighbors in need.

The St. Louis Food Pantry is one of the largest in Austin and plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity in our community. As a partner of the Capital Area Food Bank, the pantry distributes groceries every Saturday morning from 8:30–10:00 a.m. In recent months, they have served close to 200 individuals each week, offering essential support to families and individuals facing difficult times.

Parishioners are encouraged to purchase items from the suggested list and bring them to church throughout Lent. A collection table will be located in the Narthex as you enter the church. Every contribution—large or small—helps ensure that our neighbors have access to nutritious food and the reassurance that their community cares for them.
